Some weddings feel like stepping into another time, filled with details that are both nostalgic and timeless. For Lily and Jason, their wedding at Kumeu Valley Estate carried that kind of magic — and with the cherry blossoms in full bloom, they couldn’t have chosen a more perfect moment to celebrate. The blossoms only last for two weeks each year, making their timing incredibly lucky.
A Bride with Vintage Vision
One of the things I love most is when brides know exactly what they want. Lily is definitely one of those brides. Drawn to vintage style, she carefully curated her look and chose Kumeu Valley Estate for its old-world charm and natural beauty. Her wedding dress was pure ’90s inspiration, complete with a veil pinned delicately into her hair, elegant gloves, and all the little details that made her style unforgettable.
Her vision came together perfectly with the artistry of YUYU, one of my favourite makeup artists, who created a look that highlighted Lily’s timeless beauty while staying true to her vintage aesthetic.
A Morning with a Twist
In the lead-up to the day, Lily asked me about my usual wedding morning routine. I explained that I typically begin with photos of the room, candid shots of the bridal party getting ready, and detail photos — the rings, shoes, and dress. But Lily had something different in mind.
Instead of flat lays and staged details, she wanted her morning filled with photos of her and her animals. Curious, I asked how many animals she had, and the answer truly surprised me. The morning became one of the most unique and heartwarming I’ve ever photographed — a reflection of Lily’s personality and the life she and Jason share together.

As their wedding photographer in Auckland, I felt so lucky to capture a day that blended vintage style, natural beauty, and personal touches that were anything but ordinary. From the fleeting cherry blossoms to the sentimental details of Lily’s look, and the joy of including her animals in the morning preparations, every moment told their story in a way that felt genuine and unforgettable.
Jason and Lily’s celebration is a reminder that weddings are at their best when they reflect the couple at the heart of them — their personalities, passions, and the little things that make their love unique.
