Bea and Kyuwon
Bea and Kyuwon’s love story is one of serendipity, second chances, and the kind of connection that only grows stronger over time. They first met in 2013 at Forest Lakes Camp in Otaki, when Kyuwon was finishing up his exchange year from Korea. Though they enjoyed working together in their team, Bea assumed he’d return home and they’d never cross paths again. Kyuwon, meanwhile, thought Bea was far out of his league.
But fate had other plans. At another camp in April 2014, they found themselves in the same team again. Bea noticed Kyuwon looking at her, and slowly realised that maybe the feeling was mutual. (Ask them and you’ll hear two different stories — Bea insists Kyu made the first move, while Kyu swears it was her. The truth probably lies somewhere in between!)
It wasn’t until 2016, when both moved to Auckland for university, that their paths aligned for good. They reconnected, began dating, and, as they say, the rest is history.
A Bright & Joyful Wedding Day
Their wedding at The Lodge, Pauatahanui Inlet was everything they had hoped for: happy, bright, cosy, and fun. The day before had been stormy, with heavy rain and thunderstorms, but just two hours before the ceremony, the skies cleared. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect — the sun broke through, and the couple was able to say their vows surrounded by mountains and water, with the most beautiful backdrop nature could provide.
The Lodge’s serene setting, with its panoramic views of Pauatahanui Inlet and rustic yet elegant charm, created the perfect atmosphere for their celebration. From the ceremony through to the reception, the mood was lighthearted and full of joy.
